Gwen specializes in Egyptian dance and in theatrical fusion bellydance, blending elements from ballet and western theatrical dance forms with Egyptian bellydance into a unique, graceful and elegant fusion. She also loves to use props including sword, stick, veils, fans and shamadan.
Performing and teaching bellydance for over two decades, she has studied Egyptian dance extensively and has learnt from many world-renowned master teachers and performers. Gwen began dancing at the age of 3, and has studied many styles including bellydance, ballet, modern dance, jazz, rock n’ roll and ballroom.
Qualified as a bellydance teacher, assessor and mentor with JWAAD, and a director of JWWAD Bellydance Training Lmited, Gwen trains bellydance teachers on the JWAAD Safe Delivery of Bellydance Classes, History and Culture, Music, and Teaching Methods courses. She is a member of the JWAAD Teachers' Association, and has had the privilege of being both training coordinator and acting chair JWAAD Teachers’ Association.
Gwen is also one of the few belly dance teachers in the UK certified in the Suhaila and Jamila Salimpour formats. She is certified at Level 1 in Suhaila format and Level 2 in the Jamila format, and has found the Suhaila format hugely beneficial for strong, precise dancing.
She is known for elegant, inventive and dramatic choreography and performance. and has performed and taught across the UK and in Europe, and at international events such as the International Bellydance Congress and Bellyfusions Festival Paris. She was a judge at the Cleopatra Award Competition for Fuson Bellydance (London 2011) and the Miss Bellydance UK 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 competitions, in 2011 and 2012, judging contestants in both Oriental and Fusion dance, and of the Fantasia competition 2015, judging contestants performing to a Live Egyptian band. She was also a contenstant coach for the 2012/13 season of Bellydance Trophies. Gwen performs solo and is also a principal soloist with the prestigious Johara Dance Company, she had also performed in Bal Anat, the world's longest-running Bellydance company.
Gwen is available for performances,and for individual and group tuition throughout the UK and in Europe in Egyptian and theatrical fusion bellydance.
